Why we arrive early: We intentionally arrive before 10:00 AM. After 11 AM the site becomes very hot and crowded. The sacrifice of an early start is absolutely worth it.

These are the only circular stepped pyramids in Mesoamerica. The Teuchitlán culture (300–900 AD) built concentric rings around a central altar — a design found nowhere else in pre-Hispanic America.

Moderate. There is walking on uneven terrain and some uphill paths. Comfortable shoes are essential. The site is accessible for most fitness levels.
